I attended their volunteer conference in Carmel-by-the-Sea last month.

Over thirty people and almost as many dogs attended from across the country.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, lap dogs with sweet dispositions, come in four colors, from left to right: Blenheim (Chestnut and White), Tri-color, Ruby and Black & Tan.

I got to meet Beckham, a 10-year-old tri-color Cavalier currently living with a foster family in San Diego and available for adoption. He was dressed as Superman for Halloween.

I gave a presentation at the conference on how to take better dog photos. One of my tips was if you're having trouble getting the dog to look at the camera try a noisemaker like a squeaky ball, harmonica, kazoo or train whistle.

I'm proud to be a member of HeARTs Speak, an organization that unites artists to increase the visibility of shelter animals. HeARTs Speak generously donated their shelter photography field guide to the attendees of the conference.

After the presentations we did an impromptu Halloween parade through Carmel, which is a very dog-friendly town. These two Cavaliers were dressed as an angel and a devil. If you know an animal rescue group that could use help improving their photography email me at PipiDiamond@gmail.com to set up a time for me to give a presentation.
